Elsevier Research Tools: Scopus, Research Metrics & Indicators

Elsevier Research Tools: Scopus, Research Metrics & Indicators In-Person

Elsevier are one of the world's major publishers of scientific, technical, and medical information, and Elsevier resources such as ScienceDirect and Scopus are widely used in industry and academia.

Michaela Kurschildgen, Customer Consultant from Elsevier, will be visiting the University to deliver a hands-on workshop on their research platform Scopus.

Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. Scopus features smart tools to track, analyse and visualise research.

This session will provide an introduction to Scopus as well as an opportunity to try the database out. It will also provide an overview of Scopus' CiteScore methodology, and provide guidance on how to use research metrics responsibly.

The timetable of the session is as follows:

  • 9.30-11.00 Introduction and Scopus hands-on session
  • 15 min Break
  • 11.15-12.00 Research Metrics & Indicators ; how to use them responsibly

Please bring your own laptop or device to take full advantage of the hands-on aspects of the session. There will be a limited number of laptops in the room and it may be possible to share, but bringing your own is recommended.

The session will be held in Y04-07 in Bolton Central (the University of Bolton Institute of Management Building). Bolton Central is located in Bolton Town Centre, on the junction of Great Moor Street and Newport Street (for more information see the campus map). Please arrive in plenty of time for the session so it can start promptly at 9:30am.
